Site-Stand-Strut Youth Placemaking for Soul City Corridor

2021-2023
Chicago Department of Transportation

site

Chicago Avenue from Cicero to Austin Blvd in Austin

Commission

Civiltech with Lamar Johnson Collaborative

Scope and Approach

Three placemaking proposals to engage youth and bring life and activity to the sidewalks of Chicago Avenue. “Sit” is a circular seating area designed for peace circles and socializing, “Stand” is a pop-up market where teen designers and entrepreneurs can present and sell their crafts, from t-shirt design to hair braiding, “Strut” is a catwalk integrated into the pavement, where teens can turn out and show off their fits. Territory design teams hope to prototype Sit-Stand-Strut in summer 2022.
